Welcome to the Aquila District website. Our district spans from West Seattle to Des Moines, and from Tukwila to Vashon. Aquila District was recognized with the 2015 Journey to Excellence Gold Award! There are 54 Scouting units with more than 400 registered adult volunteers serving over 1,100 youth throughout our district. If you are interested in learning more about Scouting, please contact or visit one of the Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, or Venturing Crews in our community. Our monthly Roundtable meetings are a great place for adults to learn about Scouting and exchange ideas with other Scouters all over the District.
Aquila District's Merit Badge Jamboree gives Scouts the opportunity to meet and work with qualified, registered Merit Badge Counselors on a variety of Merit Badges. All Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, and qualified Venturers are welcome to attend. There is typically a Jamboree in the spring and fall each year, with different Merit Badges offered at each event. Jamborees are also opportunities for adults to take trainings like Youth Protection, Merit Badge Counselor, and Scoutmaster Specific.
A merit badge counselor serves as both a teacher and mentor as Scouts work on a merit badge. In one way, he or she is an examiner. In a larger sense, the counselor uses this opportunity for coaching-helping young men overcome the hurdles of the different requirements and making Scouts aware of the deeper aspects of the subject from their knowledge and experience. Because of these unique opportunities to serve Scouts, volunteering as a merit badge counselor is one of the most gratifying experiences for adults in Scouting today.
New counselors as well as counselors who have not already taken this training are strongly urged to attend. This training opportunity allows volunteers to get their questions answered by experienced Scouters, and fully understand their role as counselors.
A must for all new Scoutmasters & Assistant Scoutmasters, and those experienced unit leaders that have not received any training in the past 3 years. And, for 2nd year Webelos Leaders who are planning to bridge-over into Boy Scouting in the next 3 - 6 months. It is highly recommended for all new and experienced Troop Committee Members who wish to gain a better understanding about the roles and responsibilities of their adult unit leaders. We also encourage this training for all parents who wish to gain a better understanding of how a "boy run" unit operates. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters who complete this training as well as IOLS and Youth Protection trainings are considered "trained."
Cast in a Brothers Grimm setting, Troop 360's Haunted Hike is a community event geared toward youth aged 7-12. As you walk through the scary, dark forest, you will come across a variety of haunted scenes. Some may make you laugh, others will drain you of your courage! Either way, this mysterious trek is sure to get you in the mood for Halloween. Everyone is welcome, so bring your whole family, but please be aware that is can be too scary for some younger hikers.
If you're up for a hike through the woods and a good old-fashioned scaring, put on your hiking boots and join us for an evening of classics like: grave scenes, monsters jumping out at you from the bushes, creatures ambling through the fog, rabid animals howling in the distance, and yes, perhaps even... zombies!!
Aquila district is in the process of updating the current list of merit badge counselors. If you are currently a merit badge counselor please respond to or e-mail Ken DeVos, 206-248-2543. We need to know the merit badge(s) that you are the counselor for and the troop that you are affiliated with. Please specify if you are willing to reach outside your troop. If you do not wish to continue as MBC let us know that too. If you are interested in becoming a merit badge counselor read on...

Scouts should check out this cool application for the iPhone and iPod touch, designed by the Aquila District's own Mike Grueter:
ScoutTracker is an app for the iPhone and iPod touch that lets Boy Scouts track their rank advancement. Scouts can sign and date each requirement of each rank, instantly see what requirements are left to complete, send reports to advancement coordinators via e-mail, and more.
