Dear Northern Trails Volunteers and Parents:

As we approach the fall, I’d like to share a few details related to the new “Northern Trails”. The district is comprised of the Redmond portion of the former Sammamish Trails District and all of the former North Lakes District. The formation of the new district took place in June.

The merge came as a result of the LDS Church’s decision to end its association with the Boy Scouts of America, as of December 31, 2019. This news was reported in May 2018.

District Committee Meeting & District Roundtable:

The location of the October Northern Trails Committee Meeting (1st Thursday, 6:45pm for Sept. 5) & District Roundtable (2nd Thursday, 7pm) will be at Cottage Lake LDS Church: 18860 NE Woodinville Duvall Rd. Redmond -  NOTE: District meetings no longer take place at Rose Hill LDS Church.  Please join us at our Northern Trails meetings.

New District Name: The district name has been approved by the council board and is now officially Northern Trails.  It is a combination of both the old district names North Lakes and Sammamish Trails.

Volunteer Hours: Log your Scout volunteer hours on your company web-site, especially if you volunteered at Scout Day Camp or Resident Camp. Select Chief Seattle Council Tax ID 910569878. Redeem Scout Bucks at the Scout Shop for camping equipment or other Scouting needs.

LDS Families: This fall, consider visiting a community troop and/or pack. Go to my.scouting.org to find one near you. LDS-centric troop and pack: Bothell Stake contact-Bret Ahlstrom (ahlstrombd@hotmail.com). Redmond Stake contact-(dthaler@microsoft.com). LDS Troops, see Adventure Outpost below.

For your daughter: Join a neighborhood Cub Pack. Also, there are 3 girl troops in the Northern Trails District.

District Advancement Procedures: Changes most likely will take place with points of contact for Eagle Project approval and Eagle Boards of Review. Until then, continue with who’ve been working with.

Webelos Woods/Adventure Outpost: Scout and non-Scout, 5th & 6th grade girls and boys, join us at “Adventure Outpost” on Saturday, September 28, 8:30am-noon (Cold Creek Natural Area & Mary Cash Farm, 18200 Woodinville-Duvall Rd.) Meet troops from the district. Activities: axes & knives, cooking, first aid, map & compass. RSVP your attendance: cyndy.jones@nlbsa.org or call Cyndy at 425-844-8435.

The Adventure Outpost, similar to the Sammamish Trails district event, Webelos Woods, where Kirkland and Redmond Cubs met troop leaders, is not currently taking place.

Program & Training Conference (PTC): Saturday, October 19, 7:40am-4:45pm, North Seattle College. A cornucopia of classes for Cub, Scout, Venture and Sea Scout leaders. Send a few leaders from your unit, an all-expense paid trip!  http://seattlebsa.org/ptc

Merit Badge Weekend: Camp Edward, November 8-10 (classes on the 9th). Event Chair: Owen Wessling. Registration site will be up by the last week in September. Volunteer to teach a badge: contact Owen. xarch@comcast.net

Klondike Derby: January 17-19, 2020. Camp Koinonia, Cle Elum. Event organized by Northern Trails District and South District volunteers. Registration site will be up by the first week in November. Bret Ahlstrom  ahlstrombd@hotmail.com (or) Dale Rae dale@dfrae.com
