BEYOND 2020 - PARENTS & FAMILIES

That are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Information on the new Church initiative for children and youth initiative (announced on May 8, 2018 and set to launch in 2020) can be found on the  “Worldwide Children and Youth Initiative of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” page. CLICK HERE

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles made the following statements, “This isn’t a divorce. It’s growth. We’re not in any way disavowing any of those virtues of Scouting. It is just the charter part that we are separating from…We are friends now and we will be friends forever. In 18 months when our charters are finished, we hope that many LDS youth who wish to do so will still choose to be in Scouting.”

As families like yours organize your priorities, we wish to offer you a program that familiar with your youth and has been time tested and trusted by The Church of Jesus Christ for many years.

Transition Guidelines and Timeline for Boy Scouts of America and  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-

Now through May 2019

BSA volunteers and professionals begin registering new units. Because forming a new Scouting unit requires at least five youth, Church youth may be multiple-registered as part of the required five BUT should only be active in their current Church Scouting unit.

June through December 2019 - BSA volunteers and professionals will begin registration of Church youth who desire to continue their Scouting experience after December 31, 2019. These youth will be multiple-registered in their current Church Scouting unit and in their new Scouting unit until January 1, 2020.

Clarification from the LDS/BSA National Seminar (Church Office Building, SLC. 4-6 April 2019)

May - To be ready in 2020 we need to establish Units now. It requires Leaders and 5 youth to register in the new Unit.

June- Registration begins in these Units for those wishing to continue in Scouting.
