KLONDIKE DERBY
FEBRUARY 22-24, 2019
CAMP PARSONS
• WHAT IS A KLONDIKE DERBY?
It is a Winter Camping and Outdoor Skills Competition. Each patrol/team must build and bring a Klondike sled. Patrols/teams will load their sled with a minimum of the supplies required, (list will be distributed later), and pull them through the competition course. Patrols/teams will receive nuggets for their score at each station. The patrol/team with the most nuggets will win the overall derby. There will be a Friday evening cracker barrel and on Saturday evening awards will be presented for event and overall derby performance.
• WHO CAN ATTEND?
Scouts BSA and Venture Scouts in Patrols/Teams consisting of 5 – 8 participants.
• COST
This year the cost is $16.00 per person (The same as last year!). Registration forms will be available at the Scout Shop in Silverdale. Contact orcaklondikederby@gmail.com if you would like a flyer electronically mailed to you.
• EVENTS
The events will be run by Klondike staff members and will involve Scout skills like First Aid, Knot tying, Plant identification, Teamwork, Fire building, Cooking, Orienteering, etc.


• KLONDIKE SLED GUIDELINES
The sled must display the patrol name AND Troop number. It must be propelled by Scouts - no other means allowed. The ropes may not be looped around anyone; the Scouts pulling can hold onto the rope. • REGISTRATION
REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 16th so the planning committee has time to purchase food and other supplies for the event.
Fill out the Klondike Derby 2018 Signup Form.docx and turn it in at the Scout Shop in Silverdale. At a minimum, please email orcaklondikederby@gmail.com and let us know how many are attending so we can properly plan Saturday’s lunch event.
Details on the schedule and required equipment will be provided to all registered participants when the event list has been finalized.

As of now, it is expected that everyone at the Derby will be able to be housed in the Adirondacks at Camp Parsons. Having said that, please consider bringing tents to house your Units. We don’t think anyone will need to use their tents, but it is better to Be Prepared than not.

 

Registration for the Sinclair District Camporee is now open!

Your troops may register now for pre-registration rates until March 20th for the following rates (per person):

Youth $15
Adult $15
Guest Free
Webelos Free

As a recruitment opportunity, non-scouting youth (of scouting age) and Webelos dens may attend Camporee with a troop.

You can register online or via a paper form accessible through the Camporee Leaders Guide which is coming soon.

Pre-registration ends midnight March 20th.
After March 20th, you can continue to register on-site at Camporee, but with an additional fee of $5 per person (including guests and Webelos).
Troops which pre-register will receive priority campsite assignments.
Camporee patches for your troop is not guaranteed if you do not pre-register.

It is highly encouraged for troops to designate a leader to register their troop as a group. You can register additional scouts at any point in time though be advised that we will not be issuing refunds if your troop brings fewer scouts than you register.

Your troop can stay through Sunday March 31 or leave after closing campfire on Saturday March 30. The rate is the same whether your troop stays one or two nights. Be sure to indicate which night your troop intends on leaving when you register.

Any OA members interested in helping staff the event are encouraged to sign up at a rate of $15. Staff must stay the whole weekend.

Nominations are accepted at the February and March Roundtables or via email (with completed form attachment). 

Award recipients will be announced at the District Volunteer Recognition April 11th.

Recognition is of both Youth and Adults.
