Sam McLamb Philmont Campership Fund

The McLamb family has established a campership in memory of Sam McLamb, who passed away after a battle with cancer in June 2021 at the age of 33.

The Sam McLamb Philmont Campership Fund will provide a $1,000 annual stipend to a deserving Chief Seattle Council Scout attending Philmont Scout Ranch to help defray costs. Friends and family are encouraged to make donations to this fund, so that additional camperships may be funded in Sam’s memory.

Sam McLamb was an Eagle Scout, member of Order of the Arrow, and a leader in both Troop 600 in Bellevue and Troop 112 in Paris, France, where he began his Boy Scout adventure. Sam especially enjoyed camping at Camp Baden Powell in England, and Camp Parsons and Camp Sheppard in Washington. But most of all, he always held his High Adventure trip to Camp Philmont in New Mexico as a special memory.

This fund will exist in perpetuity and will be part of Chief Seattle Council’s permanent endowment fund.

How to apply for a Philmont Campership

Scouts participating in Rayado, ROCS, STEM, Ranch Hands, and 12-day, 9-day, or 7-day treks are welcome to apply. Campership pays a maximum of 100% of Philmont fees (gear & travel excluded). A minimum of one campership will be awarded to a registered Chief Seattle Council Scout. Priority will be given to those Scouts eligible for free or reduced school lunch. Once a Scout is selected, Council staff will confirm with unit leaders the details of the unit’s Philmont reservation and arrange for payment.
