Introduction to Leader Skills training– AKA: IOLS
Introduction to Leader Skills training is a “hands-on“ course that will provide adults and adult leaders the necessary
practical skills to successfully lead Scouts in outdoor activities.
These skills include: the use of the “patrol method and buddy system”, backpacking and selecting proper gear & camp
equipment, outdoor cooking, knot tying & lashings, whipping ropes, the correct safe handling and sharpening of woods
tools, using the principals of Leave No Trace, putting on an interfaith worship service, setting up campfire programs, fire
building, the use of map & compass, and a host of other pertinent skills related to the outdoors – to the skill level of a
First-Class Scout.
This training is held at Camp Schoenwald (16030 Sylvester Rd SW; Seattle WA 98166). The cost of $20 covers the meals
(Fri Cracker-barrel, Sat Breakfast, & Lunch) and supplies. Please arrive by 4pm, Friday evening, September 16th . The course will be concluded no later than 5pm on September 17th .
